Teacher Fail

"I took Spanish 1002 over the summer and all semester my teacher promised my class a study guide for the final as well as offered to give us a final review session on reading day. The week of the final, he sent this e-mail to my class because somebody had complained about him to the department head. Thanks to his unprofessional attitude and constant disrespect towards his students (which the complaint was about), I am now having to retake the same class. Thanks UWG for raising my tuition every semester and still not being able to provide competent teachers."

  3. This crap happened when I took his class. This is just a story he tells. It happened in my class, a friend of mines class and now this time. Ortiz needs to be fired. He didn't give me a grade one semester. Just didn't give me a grade. N/A for the grade. What a douche.

  4. Should something be able to be done if this happens over and over again? I mean damn Dr. Sentha fired like 3 people last year lets get this guy to be the first for this year!! Stupid spanish teacher!!!!!!!!!

  5. Anybody notice that he put "Sincerily Your,"? Shouldn't it be yours or shouldn't there be something after your so it makes more since then your Mr. Otrz cause idk about you but I don't want him.

  6. Lol this is a retarded teacher. He doesn't even know correct grammar when trying to rant about his own failure being pointed out by his students.

Notice near the middle of the message he put "the final review is been cancelled." Shouldn't it be "has been cancelled"? Lol!!!

  7. I don't know. It sounds like he gave out lots of review materials, including instructions and examples from the actual test and he offered some websites with even more help. Then he was going to lead an optional review but students complained and he had to cancel it. He could have taken a more professional tone, but it kind of sounds like the students failed themselves here.

  8. ^even if that was the case, the tone presented in this email is ridiculous and unprofessional, especially to send as a mass email to all of your students. I had this teacher before and he was ridiculous. Im totally not surprised it happened.

  10. Ortiz sucks. Took him for Linguistics. Had an A in the class up until the final project, and somehow got a C in the class... ? Yeah, I don't know either.

  11. I was in this class. He didn't give us anything to work with besides the homework we had to do in class. I've got Spanish 2001 with him now and he's still pulling the same crap. We had one review the first test and after somebody complained again (which I really don't blame them) he said, "Since there are people talking behind my back to my boss you are no longer going to get test reviews in here." And he took the reviews away from all of his classes, not just ours.

  12. This isn't ratemyprofessors.com, for those of you complaining about this certain professor (who I regard as a good, strict professor for those who aren't lazy, ignorant farts). I would highly suggest marking out names on this blog unless the person gives consent. It doesn't matter how much you hate your professor, you shouldn't exploit his emails on the internet. This is embarassingly immature.

  13. I'll add the comment that while I don't now this professor, it is generally true that there is a reason they are called "professors" and not "teachers." They are not teachers there to hold your hand and tell you everything that you need to know. I find it ridiculous that professors now, on my return to the classroom, now almost universally give out study guides. I thought that's what the texts and notes were for? Grow up people. This isn't high school anymore.

  14. All you bitches better lay off Ortiz. You're not entitled to a review day OR a study guide, and providing both is something only pushover professors do. You failed the class because you relied on a freaking study guide instead of, I don't know, actually learning the material? THAT is failure.

Ortiz sticks his neck out every semester to provide study guides for oral exams, which he's NOT SUPPOSED TO DO, and every semester somebody blabs about it to the department head and he gets in trouble for providing extra help to his students. He's a hard professor because that's how college is SUPPOSED to be. He actually expects you to LEARN the material, and when you walk into his class expecting him to hand you an A, he's not gonna like you. He only disrespects those who disrespect him. I guarantee that if you show him you're working hard, he'll take care of you.

  15. i'm pretty sure that all of the spanish professors provide study guides for their oral exams, actually. i'm not so sure that ortiz is "sticking his neck out" in this case. the spanish professors run pretty much the same gambit as far as the semester goes - we learn the same amount of material and supposedly we get pretty similar study guides depending on the teacher, right down to the exams which should be similar if not exactly the same.

  16. I can tell you right now that the only test that are the same are the oral midterm and final for all the students. The test are different for each professor. Professors are not required to give study guides! That is something they do for the students, but if you want to mess with him then thats what you get. Time to grow up folks, your in college. Do you think Harvard or Yale professors would be this nice, or even conduct their classes as easy as these professor do? Hell no! Stop wanting handouts and learn for a change! So many students in college had it easy in High School. Teachers who didnt check to see if papers were copied from the internet. Pick up the book or get a tutor.

  17. Correcting the professor's English (which he doesn't teach, so I'm just being helpful)

    Regarding the email above:
    1. "throughout" is one word (lines 2-3)
    2. "detail" should be "detailed" (line 4)
    3. "explanation" should be "explanations" (line 4)
    4. "instructions of" should be "instructions for" (line 5)
    5. "answer" should be "answering" (line 8)
    6. "went and" should be omitted (line 10)
    7. "is been cancelled" should be "has been cancelled" (line 11)
    8. "sincerely your" should be "sincerely yours" (line 12)
